The police uncovered the practice of mixing 3 kilograms of LPG gas into gas cylinders 6 and 12 kilograms in two different locations in Cirebon City.

"Today we revealed the results of the raid related to the practice of mixing gas by securing six suspects," said Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Eko Iskandar at a press conference in Cirebon, Tuesday, June 17, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said that the disclosure of this case began with reports from the public who suspected that there were gas mixing activities in their neighborhood on May 26, 2025.

After an investigation, his party managed to identify and arrest the perpetrators at the two points.

He explained that the suspects with the initials G and YM were owners of gas base businesses in the two locations, while the other four worked as employees who illegally transferred the contents of the gas.

In a day, according to him, the perpetrators can move the contents of the gas from 50 to 100 tubes with a profit of around Rp. 80,000 per tube.

Eko said the practice had been going on for ten months, and caused state losses which were estimated at IDR 2.5 billion.

"Subsidized gas measuring 3 kg was transferred to tubes measuring 6 and 12 kilograms to be resold as non-subsidized gas," he said.

From the two locations, he said, the police confiscated evidence in the form of 528 tubes measuring 3 kg, 340 tubes measuring 6 kg, 136 tubes measuring 12 kilograms, 1,645 gas seal caps and 9 modified regulator hoses.

The police chief said that this activity was not only detrimental to the state, but could endanger the safety of the community because the supply tubes were prone to leaks and could potentially cause fires.

He said the suspects are now charged with Article 55 of Law (UU) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas of the Earth, as amended in Article 40 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2023.

"The threat of a maximum penalty of 6 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 60 billion," he said.

The Cirebon City Police are now coordinating with Pertamina to carry out technical verification, as well as socializing the characteristics of the mixed tubes so that the public can be more vigilant.

"We urge the public not to be tempted by cheap prices and to always buy LPG in official agents, to avoid risk of danger and support the distribution of subsidies on target," he said.
