Again, 100 High-Risk Drug Convicts Moved To Nusakambangan

The Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenmipas) RI has again transferred residents of the high risk category of drug trafficking to the Super Maximum Security Prison on Nusakambangan Island, Central Java.

As many as 100 convicts at high risk of drug cases have been transferred from the North Sumatra region. Since the beginning of President Prabowo Subianto's administration, the total number of prisoners who have been transferred to Nusakambaban has been 1,000 people.

The prisoners are placed in prisons with maximum and super maximum safety levels. The super maximum prison applies the placement of each inmates in a special cell (one man one cell) with very limited interactions and is fully monitored via CCTV.

"This is a form of progressive implementation of the acceleration of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections, namely eradicating drugs in prisons and detention centers," said Head of Sub-Directorate for Cooperation and Public Services at the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Rika Aprianti in her statement, Sunday, June 15.

Rika stated that the inmates who were transferred to Nusambangan were in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP), through investigations, investigations, and assessments.

"This is part of the implementation of the goal of the correctional system, the main thing is that they can realize their mistakes and not do it again, let alone have a negative effect on the prison environment where they live," said Rika.

It is hoped that when the inmates return to society, they can become people who realize their mistakes, do not repeat their mistakes, and can contribute actively, independently to personal life and society.

"The target we want to achieve is to reduce to zero drug trafficking in prisons and remand centers which also have an impact on the community," said Rika.

"However, on the other hand, the transferred inmates are also expected to change their behavior for the better after proper security and coaching are implemented in Nusakambangan Prison," he added.
