JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, said that strategic infrastructure development is in line with the need for protection of migrant workers.
He made this statement after attending the National Infrastructure Conference which was held at the Plenary Hall, Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Senayan, Friday, June 13.
The conference was attended directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, as well as the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).
According to Karding, infrastructure, apart from the construction of roads, bridges, or buildings as well
has a real impact on the welfare of the community, including Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) spread across various countries.
"Infrastructure should not be seen only as a physical project, but must provide direct benefits for citizens, especially our migrant workers," Karding said at the location.
He highlighted the importance of providing supporting facilities such as an integrated training center, a safe migration system, and integrated data collection to ensure the protection of migrant workers, both before departure, while working abroad, as well as after returning to their homeland.
Furthermore, Karding hopes that infrastructure development is also directed to open economic access in migrant bag areas, so that regional potential can develop while reducing inequality.

"Infrastructure policies must support the empowerment of migrant workers as a whole. The state is present from the beginning to the end of the migration process," he said.
The 2025 National Infrastructure Conference is a strategic forum in formulating an inclusive and sustainable long-term development direction, ensuring that no community group is left behind, including migrant workers who have been the heroes of the country's foreign exchange.
