BANDUNG - Efforts to smuggle narcotics into the Class IIA Baduk Penitentiary (Lapas), Bandung Regency, West Java, have occurred again. However, this time, the perpetrator tried an unusual mode, sending 25 grams of crystal methamphetamine using drones.
The head of the Badukong Prison Security Unit, Muhammad Nurzaman, revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday, July 8 last night, when the security team was conducting routine patrols around the residential block area.
"Officers suspect the movement of a drone passing over a residential block, then dropping a suspicious package," said Nurzaman when confirmed in Bandung, Antara, Tuesday, July 10.
Officers on standby immediately moved quickly. The attempt by the inmates to retrieve the package was successfully thwarted. After the examination, it was found that the package contained two packages of methamphetamine with a total weight of about 25 grams.
According to Nurzaman, his party immediately coordinated with the Bandung Police Narcotics Investigation Unit to submit evidence and convicts suspected of being involved in the smuggling attempt.
"All evidence and assisted residents that are suspected to be related are left to the police for further legal proceedings," he said.
He emphasized that the smuggling mode is now increasingly sophisticated by utilizing technology, but this does not reduce the preparedness of the officers.
"Now it's no longer a matter of climbing a wall or tucking things in. They use drones, but we are also ready. This is proof that our security system continues to be alert and not easily penetrated," he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the Class IIA Bandung Narcotics Prison, Ahmad Tohari, said that the incident reflected the complexity of the challenges faced by officers in keeping the prison environment clean of illicit drug trafficking.
"Their mode is getting more modern, but our commitment to maintaining security is much stronger. We will continue to strengthen the surveillance system," said Ahmad.
