Budget Relaxation Is Not A Boros Ticket, Members Of The DPR Ask The Ministry Of Home Affairs To Make Clear Parameters For The Regional Government

JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR RI welcomes the steps taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to relax budget efficiency regulations, including giving the local government (Pemda) the green light to hold activities again in hotels and restaurants.

However, the DPR reminded the importance of clear rules of the game so that the policy was not misinterpreted.

"In principle, we support the relaxation of budget efficiency. The hotel industry needs to be supported. But there must still be clear parameters as a guide for the regional government," said Member of Commission II DPR RI Muhammad Khozin, Monday, June 9.

Khozin assessed that the Ministry of Home Affairs needs to immediately revise Circular (SE) Number 900/833/SJ which was published on February 23, 2025 as a follow-up to Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2025 concerning Budget Efficiency.

This revision is needed so that there is clarity regarding relaxation, especially in the use of the budget for activities such as seminars, studies, and ceremonial events.

"If previously everything was limited, then now new guidelines must be made so that there is no confusion. Do not let the spirit of efficiency turn into a waste," said the legislator from the PKB faction.

Khozin also emphasized the importance of a thorough study in every policy issuance by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to him, policies must not change without calculation, because it will risk creating uncertainty in the regions.

He admitted that the hotel sector was directly affected by the budget efficiency policy which had limited ceremonial activities and official travel. However, this impact is not evenly distributed in all regions.

In areas where the tourism sector runs optimally, the hotel industry is relatively not affected. In fact, this is an impetus for local governments to further explore the potential for regional tourism," concluded Khozin.
