JAKARTA - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas said the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) was still the government's initiative because the draft and concept of the bill had been submitted by the previous government.

According to him, recently there was a desire by the DPR to withdraw the draft and rearrange it to initiate the Asset Confiscation Bill.

"For us, the government as a whole, especially the President, whoever is the initiative is not important. Whether the government or the DPR, the important thing for the government and the President is that the bill is completed," Supratman said when met in Jakarta, Friday, June 6, was confiscated by Antara.

If later there is an academic paper on the New Asset Confiscation Bill initiated by the DPR, he emphasized that the draft will be studied more deeply by considering various inputs from all stakeholders.

The Asset Confiscation Bill has been included in the 2025-2029 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), but has not been included in the 2025 Priority Prolegnas.

Nevertheless, Supratman said that later there would be an evaluation of the National Legislation Program after the DPR recess period was over.

If after being evaluated by the DPR wants to initiate the Asset Confiscation Bill, he has no problem with it, the most important thing is that the bill can be discussed.

So far, he said that President Prabowo Subianto had communicated the Asset Confiscation Bill with the general chairmen of political parties.

"I always say what is the point of this bill being included in the National Legislation Program if later the government submits it, then it's not finished either. Now that the President has communicated with the head of the political party, I'm sure it will be better," he said.

The Asset Confiscation Bill has been rolling for almost two decades, since it was first proposed by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) in 2008.

The bill was included in the National Legislation Program in 2023, and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo in the same year, also sent a presidential letter (surpres) of the Asset Confiscation Bill as a bill proposed by the government to be discussed together with the DPR.

However, so far the bill has not been formally discussed, both by the government and the DPR.
