JAKARTA - A small magnitude earthquake in southern Italy caused the collapse of parts of the walls and parts of the dome at the archaeological site Pompeii.
An earthquake measuring 3.2 on Thursday, June 5 local time was the latest in a series of earthquakes centered on the super volcano Campi Flegrei close to the city of Naples.
As reported by Reuters, the affected Pompeii site was damaged by a major earthquake that rocked southern Italy in 1980 and has since been repaired and restored.
No wall or relic painting can be moved to a damaged building and no one is injured.
Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Pompeii website, said investigations were underway to ensure no other areas were affected.
The ancient settlement of Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of MountATAN in 79 AD.
