Pope Leo XIV Urges Putin To Realize Russia-Ukraine Peace

JAKARTA - Pope Leo XIV urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to take concrete steps towards peace with Ukraine during telephone conversations.

The conversation was described by the Vatican as "open and focused on the importance of dialogue," while watching the Pope directly request that Moscow take action that could help ease tensions and create conditions for further diplomatic engagement.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, June 5, Director of the Press Office of the Holy Throne Matteo Bruni said the Pope emphasized the importance of dialogue to create positive contacts between parties involved and find solutions to conflict in the conversation.

The two also discussed humanitarian aid and obstacles that exist in facilitating assistance when needed, as well as ongoing efforts around prisoner exchanges.

The Pope also expressed his gratitude for the congratulations coming from the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill at the start of his papal period.

He reiterated the same values between Christian traditions, saying these values could serve as "light that helps seek peace, maintain life, and pursue true freedom of religion."
