2 Supporting Camps For Candidates For The Regent Of Mulia Papua Clash Again, Residents' Houses Burned

JAKARTA - The Head of the Puncak Jaya Police, AKBP Ahmad Fauzan, said that two groups of people returned to fight in Mulia, the capital of Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua.

Since last Tuesday (3/6), attacks between two community groups have occurred again, including house fires.

"In the dispute that occurred on Thursday (5/6), it is not yet known how many victims and houses were burned because members focused on reducing the dispute so that it would not spread," said Puncak Jaya Police Chief AKBP Ahmad Fauzan, Thursday, June 5.

Initially, the masses of supporters of candidate pair 02 who were in front of Mulia Airport crossed the PMI limit in Karugate Village, which made the supporters of 01 not accept and retaliate so that there was an action against each other.

The TNI-Polri tried to disperse the attacks on the two mass groups, but the two masses ignored it.

"The attacks took place in a number of areas around Mulia District," said AKBP Ahmad Fauzan.

According to him, until now the joint TNI-Polri personnel in Puncak Jaya Regency are still trying to disperse the two camps so as not to carry out attacks on each other.

Previously, in a dispute that occurred on Tuesday (3/6), one person died, namely Gum Enumbi and a student, namely Piki Murib (17 years old) was injured.

The Puncak Jaya Pilkada was followed by two pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent, namely pair number 1 Yuni Wonda Mus Kogoya and serial number 2 Miren Kogoya Mendi Wonorangga.

The pair of candidates for regent and deputy regent Yuni Wonda Mus Kogoya was declared victorious after the Constitutional Court decided not to accept the dispute over the results of the recapitulation of the 2024 Puncak Jaya Regency Election votes submitted by the candidate pair for regent and deputy regent number 2 Miren Kogoya and Mendi Wonerengga.
