JAKARTA - Member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PDIP faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, supports the discourse on making a BPJS-like program for animals by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

The BPJS plan for animals is currently being discussed by the DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service (DKPKP). According to Kenneth, this program is considered to reduce the cost of animal care for underprivileged owners.

"This is a good idea. Not all animal owners have a capable background. Sometimes what they rescue are stray cats and stray dogs, usually they will also take care of them. They are at the forefront of domestic animal assistance," Kenneth told reporters, Thursday, June 5.

This member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD explained that the animal BPJS service that will be run in the future will be integrated with the animal identification system through microchips, so that pet data can be recorded systematically.

According to him, the animal ownership system can also be upgraded to technology to microchip systems, not conventional such as books and certificates.

What is clear is that this program needs to be limited to people with Jakarta ID cards and do not have tax arrears or other administrative obligations when verification is carried out.

"Well, with the BPJS Animal program, we hope that they can be lighter in paying for their treatment," explained Kenneth.

Kenneth previously also conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at the Ragunan Animal Health Center (Puskeswan), South Jakarta.

During the visit, the Head of IKAL PPRA LXII Lemhannas appreciated a number of positive changes that occurred in the animal health care facility. Because at the previous inspection, Kenneth found several problems that must be evaluated by the Puskeswan.

"In the past, the cats here were still fed rice, even though ideally cats could not digest carbohydrates and would have resulted in diarrhea for the cat. Now they have been given food paint and wet food so that they look healthier, fatter and well maintained," he explained.

On the one hand, Kenneth also hopes that Ragunan Health Center can become a barometer of animal health services in Indonesia, even the world.

"I want this Puskeswan to be a national and international example. This is a challenge for Dr. Hasudungan (Head of DKI Jakarta DKI Jakarta DKP) to create an international standard animal hospital," he explained.

For information, the integration of health services in the style of special animal BPJS will begin with a feasibility study in 2025, before trials in 2026.

"All pets such as cats and dogs will be microchipped. The goal is to facilitate the identification of owners, types of animals, rabies vaccination data, and their sterilization status. This microchip will be a kind of ID card for animals," said Head of DKI Jakarta DKI Jakarta DKP Hasudungan Sidabalok, Wednesday, June 4.

This program is also designed to be synchronized with animal-specific BPJS services. However, Hasudungan emphasized that this BPJS service will only be given to animals that have been microchipped.

"Our concept is animal BPJS. So, animals that want to receive services must first have a microchip to record properly," he explained.
