JAKARTA - Mexico will announce next week's steps if no agreement is reached with the United States regarding the announced steel and aluminum rates.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said the US announcement raised the metal tariff to 50% of the 25% imposed as a "unfair move".
He alluded to the applicable free trade agreement between Mexico and Canada and the United States.
However, Sheinbaum said Mexico's response would not be "revenge."
"This is not a matter of revenge, or retaliation as they call it in English," he said.
"This is a matter of protecting our work and business," added the Mexican president.
