Not Accepting Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison, Agus Bentung Banding

The defendant of sexual abuse I Wayan Agus Suartama alias Agus Bentung filed an appeal against the 10-year prison sentence which was knocked by the panel of judges at the first instance.

Agus Bentung's legal adviser, Ainuddin, confirmed that his party representing Agus Bentung had officially declared it to the court for further legal action to the West Nusa Tenggara High Court.

"That's right. We have declared an appeal to the court," Ainuddin was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 3.

The appeal statement was filed on Monday (2/6) without any complete memorandum of appeal.

As material for the completeness of further legal remedies, Ainuddin emphasized that the appeal memory material is currently under the preparation of a team of legal advisors by studying the decision of the Mataram District Court.

Meanwhile, the team of public prosecutors who heard the news of the appeal from Agus Bentung also stated the same thing.

"Because the person concerned filed an appeal, of course we are the same," said NTB Attorney General's spokesman Efrien Saputera.

Regarding further legal action taken by both parties, both from the defendant and the public prosecutor, Mataram District Court Spokesperson Kelik Trimargo confirmed this.

"Yes, the appeal has been registered in court," said Kelik.

In the verdict hearing on Tuesday (27/5), the panel of judges chaired by Mahendrasmara Purnamajati sentenced Agus Bentung to 10 years in prison with a fine of Rp. 100 million, subsidiary to 3 months in prison.

The panel of judges handed down the verdict by stating that Agus Bentung had been proven guilty of committing the crime of sexual abuse more than once to several victims in accordance with the prosecutor's demands.

The judge stated that the defendant's actions violated Article 6 letter c in conjunction with Article 15 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence.
