JAKARTA - President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine would attend a meeting in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday proposed by Russia.

"I outline the position (Ukraine) ahead of the meeting in Istanbul on Monday," President Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Sunday after meeting with his officials.

President Zelensky also said the Ukrainian delegation would again be led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

President Zelensky further listed Ukraine's position for the negotiations as a complete and unconditional ceasefire, release of prisoners, and repatriation of kidnapped children.

"And, to build reliable and lasting peace and ensure security, to prepare for the meeting at the highest level," he said.

Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia proposed to hold its next live round of talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2, the cave reached a sustainable settlement of peace.

"We hope that everyone who sincerely, and not only in words, is interested in the success of the peace process will support holding a new round of Russia-Ukraine direct negotiations in Istanbul," Foreign Minister Lavrov said in a statement.

Last month, Russia-Ukraine held direct talks on May 16, the first time since the last direct negotiations were held in Belarus and Turkey in 2022. However, the meeting failed to agree on a ceasefire agreement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday expects Russia and Ukraine to discuss the ceasefire this week in Istanbul, praising the United Amrerika's role in mediating the talks.

Peskov said the Russian delegation would travel to Istanbul and would be ready to hold talks with Ukraine on Monday morning.

"Currently, everyone is focused on direct Russia-Ukraine negotiations. A list of terms for a temporary ceasefire is being developed," Peskov told reporters, saying details of the memorandum would not be published.

Earlier, Ukraine said it wanted to see documents describing Russia's proposal for a peace agreement before sending delegates to Istanbul for bilateral negotiations, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.

"So that the next planned meeting becomes substantive and meaningful, it is important to receive the documents first so that the delegates who will attend have the authority to discuss the relevant positions," said Foreign Minister Sybiha.

Separately, United States President Donald Trump's envoy, Keith Kellogg, indicated to ABC that his party hopes that bilateral talks on June 2 in Istanbul will continue.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said his country was ready to host the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

"This is our view: as long as (the two parties) remain at the negotiating table, progress can definitely be seen," he said at a press conference.

If negotiations continue in Istanbul, the next step is to try to host a meeting between Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, he added.
