TNGGP Lowers 2,658 Illegal Climbers From Mount Gede-Pangrango

CIANJUR - The Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Center (TNGGP) fielded 2,658 climbers from Mount Gede-Pangrango because they did not have official climbing permits during the long holiday, after they were recorded as receiving guidance from officers.

Head of the TNGGP Data, Evaluation, Reporting and Public Relations Team Agus Deni said that during the long holiday from May 29 to June 1, 2025, his party placed officers at locations suspected of being illegal hiking trails for 24 hours.

"We do this to prevent the entry of prospective climbers who do not have a permit and carry out routine patrols on the hiking trail during the long holiday, on May 30, 687 people were caught and on May 31 1,971 people were caught," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Sunday, June 1.

Prevention efforts paid off by lowering thousands of climbers who could not show official permits, so the officers immediately recorded the identities of all climbers and carried out coaching.

Based on information obtained from unscrupulous climbers, they obtained permission from Base Camp (BC) illegally, so that his party emphasized that BC is not part of the climbing manager who is given the authority or permission to manage the climb.

"Hiking Organizer (HO) which already has an official permit is the GEPANGKU Basecamp, ADVENTURE KOBEL, Sajalur Salam Rimba (USSR) Business, dolan.epangrango, and mt_gepangrango," he said.

TNGGP together with the authorities will follow up on this in accordance with applicable regulations and laws, when tourism services at TNGGP there are unscrupulous officers, HOs and/visitors who do not comply with government regulations and regulations.

Currently, climbing is not issued. The Conservative Area Entrance Permit (SIMAKSI) is replaced with a barcode code containing climber data when registering online.

"When online registration is needed, several documents need to be prepared by prospective climbers such as a health certificate, a statement letter for climbers aged less than 16 years or more than 60 years and assistance to ensure safety during the climb," he said.

He explained that Mount Gede-Pangrango is one of the national parks with a mountain tropical rainforest ecosystem which is a favorite destination for natural tourist visitors from big cities such as Jabodetabek and other cities.

TNGGP tourist destinations are currently still dominated by Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango climbing activities, various efforts have been made by the TNGGP Center, Ministry of Forestry to provide the best service to natural tourist visitors.

"Services provided include online registration and direct payments, the implementation of a quota of 600 terms per day, involving the community and volunteers in tourism services, monitoring the weather, opening and closing the climb at certain times," he said.
