The Jayapura Nimbontong Indigenous Community Appreciates Hospital Construction

SENTANI - Nimbontong Indigenous Peoples in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province expressed their appreciation for the start of the construction of type D hospitals in this area by the Jayapura Regency Government.

Traditional Leader (Ondoafi) of Nimbontong Village, Bernard Guakan, in Jayapura, Saturday, said that the presence of the hospital was an answer to the community's need for adequate health facilities, especially local indigenous peoples.

"We express our gratitude to the Regent of Jayapura and the Deputy Regent who have heard our aspirations, this is proof that development is not only concentrated in the city, but reaches our customary territory," he said.

According to Bernard, so far, Nimbontong residents and their surroundings have had to travel tens of kilometers to get health services in the city center or large health centers, which often make it difficult, especially in emergency conditions.

"Thank you because we won't have to go all the way to the city for treatment, because we already have our own hospital in this village, and also for all those who need health services," he said.

Jayapura Regent Yunus Wonda explained that the construction of a type D hospital in Nimbontong is part of a strategy to equalize basic services based on customary areas, in line with an inclusive and just development vision.

"The Nimbontong area is our priority in building public facilities, because the people here have long proposed a hospital, now we answer with real evidence," he said.

He added that the hospital would have complete facilities, including emergency installations, hospitalizations, maternity services, laboratories, and medical personnel tailored to the local community.

"We want this hospital to not only be physically present, but also managed and felt the benefits directly by indigenous peoples. This is part of our commitment to building Jayapura Regency from the village," he said.
