Meeting With The Chairman Of The Japanese House Of Representatives, Puan Asks For Green Energy Transition Support In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, met with the Chairman of the Japanese Parliament, Nukaga Fukushiro during her working visit in Tokyo. On this occasion, Puan asked for Japanese support in the field of green energy transition in Indonesia.

Puan's meeting with the Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives, Nukaga Fukushiro, was held before the inauguration of Soekarno's First Presidential Statue at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Wednesday, May 28. Fukushiro came as an invited guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Bung Karno statue.

"Good afternoon, Your Excellency, Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro, Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives. I thank the Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives for being pleased to attend the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, in the context of inaugurating the President Sukarno Statue," said Puan.

According to Puan, her meeting with Nukaga Fukushiro was an important moment for the RI-Japan friendship, which this year has entered 67 years since 1958.

President Sukarno himself has played an important role in developing Indonesia-Japan relations. President Sukarno visited Japan in 1958 and several times after that, "said Bung Karno's grandson.

On this occasion, Puan also mentioned her meeting with the previous Japanese Prime Minister (PM), Fumio Kishida in 2023. At that time, the two of them talked about improving the RI-Japan cooperation relationship, especially in the economic field to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The close relationship between the two countries was also marked by the visit of the Emperor of Japan, Hironomiya Naruhito to Jakarta in 2023. At that time, Puan also held an audience with Emperor Naruhito. The new Japanese PM, Shigeru Ishiba also visited Indonesia in early 2025.

To the chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives, Puan then stated that the relationship between the two countries was a comprehensive relationship because it was based on the principle of mutual benefit, mutual respect, and complementary. He called Japan a strategic partner for Indonesian Development.

"The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Japan needs to be strengthened, especially because we both face the challenges of geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainty. Both countries are the main pillars to create peace, security and prosperity in Asia," said Puan.

Puan also mentioned the Government's efforts, including the Indonesian Embassy in Japan, to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He said cooperation between the Indonesian Parliament and Japan also needed to be strengthened to complement close relations between the government.

"On this occasion, I would like to invite the Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives to visit Indonesia," said Puan.

On the other hand, Puan talked about trade cooperation between Indonesia and Japan. He said Japan is one of the main foreign trading partners and investors in Indonesia.

In the midst of increasing symptoms of protectionism and global economic uncertainty, said Puan, Indonesia-Japan needs to increase its trade and investment flow. "It is hoped that Japan can continue to support Indonesia for infrastructure, downstreaming, and green energy transitions," he hoped

Furthermore, Puan encourages increased friendship between the two countries. This is said to be the foundation of relations for Indonesia-Japan to make it more lasting.

The relationship between communities can be built in the tourism sector, as well as the promotion of culture, art, food, and film. I hope more Japanese tourists visit Indonesia. We also need to build a relationship between the younger generation who are leaders in the future," he said.

According to Puan, increasing relations between the younger generations of the two countries can be done through educational cooperation. "Including scholarships for Indonesian students, especially in the field of engineering and technology," explained Puan.

Puan hopes that her meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament Nukaga Fukushiro can strengthen Indonesia-Japan relations. "Hopefully you will be given health and smoothness in carrying out the duties of the parliament. Thank you, Domo Arigato Gozaimasu," he said.

At his meeting with the Chairman of the Japanese Parliament, Puan was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR Charles Honoris and Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Irine Yusiana Roba Putri.
