JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that about 30 hectares of mineral land caught fire in Andaleh Village, Luak District, Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the fire was detected starting on Monday (26/5) afternoon allegedly triggered by extreme hot weather due to the ongoing dry season in the local area.
"Medan which is difficult to reach and limited water supply is a big challenge in extinguishing efforts," Abdul said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 27.
He ensured that there were no casualties, however, prevention efforts were carried out quickly to prevent the spread of hotspots.
Officers from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Limapuluh Kota Regency together with the Fire Department, TNI, and other elements were immediately dispatched to the location while receiving reports from residents to extinguish the fire and conduct rapid assessments of the impact.
