JAKARTA - First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said Iran's nuclear program was completely peaceful, stressing nuclear weapons have no place in the country's defense strategy.
In an interview with the Iranian newspaper published on Sunday, Vice President Aref said Iran had never carried out unpeaceful nuclear activities and would continue to enforce this stance.
Iran's nuclear documents explicitly exclude the use of nuclear weapons, he said, quoted from IRNA May 26.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he alluded to the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the US, adding successful talks required mutual respect and equality between the two sides.
He stressed that Iran is open to dialogue but will not accept negotiations in which one party tries to impose its demands unfairly.
Vice President Aref stated that the hope of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington could produce positive results, including the lifting of sanctions.
He also highlighted that the Iranian government remains committed to diplomacy and cooperation, avoiding confrontation while promoting constructive unity and engagement with international partners.
