JAKARTA - Efforts to eradicate drugs in the police environment have again been in the spotlight after six members of the Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) Police, South Kalimantan, were tested positive for narcotics based on the results of a sudden urine test conducted by the police internally.

HST Police Chief AKBP Jupri JHP Tampubolon revealed that the examination was carried out as part of an intensive internal evaluation. "At the beginning of my tenure, the results of the urine test were clean. However, we changed our approach by going directly with the Propam team and work units to all police stations. From there it was found that six personnel were indicated to be using drugs," said Jupri when giving a statement in Barabai, Sunday.

This step was taken after previously the shooting incident of a member of the South Kalimantan National Police's Bhabinkamtibmas with the initials MI by officers of the South Kalimantan Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) for alleged involvement in a drug network.

"We will not tolerate irregularities like this. We emphasize that there is no room for members who abuse drugs, especially if they become dealers," said Jupri.

Against the six members who were proven to be using drugs, the HST Police have imposed coaching sanctions in the form of social and spiritual actions for 14 days under the direct supervision of the Police Chief and Deputy Chief of Police.

They are required to take part in apples twice a day, wear helmets and backpacks as a symbol of discipline, and are required to carry out sports three times a day. In addition, spiritual guidance such as five-time prayer in prayerola is also applied with strict supervision," he explained.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan expressed support for the decisive steps taken by the HST Police. He emphasized that urine and blood examinations must be carried out routinely to maintain institutional integrity.

"We are ready to synergize with BNNP, local government, and South Kalimantan Regional Police to finance and carry out this periodic examination," he said.

Regarding members involved in drugs, the Kapolda emphasized that there would be no tolerance. "Policies are clear. Members who are proven to have violated will be processed and given strict sanctions. We do not hesitate to do dishonorable dismissal (PTDH). There are still many young people out there who deserve to be police," he said.

This decisive step is expected to be a strong warning to all police personnel to stay away from drugs and maintain the honor of the institution.
