Foreign Minister Sugiono Says Myanmar Crisis Settlement Can Be Achieved If ASEAN Countries Unite

JAKARTA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono said the resolution of the Myanmar crisis was achieved if ASEAN countries unite.

Indonesia remains steadfast in its commitment to encourage a peaceful settlement in Myanmar. Regional stability can only be achieved if ASEAN unites and acts based on the principles of consensus and solidarity," said Foreign Minister Sugiono as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, May 25.

Sugiono reiterated the importance of full implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus (5PC) by focusing on stopping violence, expanding humanitarian aid, and ensuring inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders in Myanmar.

He also expressed full support for Malaysia's various initiatives, in facilitating the process of resolving internal conflicts peacefully in Myanmar, as well as Indonesia's readiness to continue to actively contribute to the restoration of democracy and Myanmar's stability.

ASEAN's strength lies in its unity. In the face of Myanmar's crisis, we must speak in one voice, and act with one goal to encourage the full implementation of the 5PC," he stressed.

The Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus meeting is an informal forum that brings together ASEAN Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys for Myanmar.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the development of the situation in Myanmar and to encourage the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus more effectively.
