Condemns Israel's Shooting Of Diplomats In Jenin, Indonesia: Due To Years Of Impunation

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the shooting of a foreign diplomat delegation in Jenin, showing Israel's attitude of ignoring international law due to years of impunity.

The shooting occurred when a diplomat delegation from a number of countries visited Jenin refugee camps in the West Bank, Palestine on Wednesday.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the shootings carried out by Israeli troops against diplomats during an official visit to the West Bank, Palestine, on May 21," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on social media X, Friday, May 23.

Delegations consisting of Ambassadors of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, European Union, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, England and several representatives of other countries visited the governorial headquarters, the situation of the city and refugee camps.

WAFA correspondents said the occupation soldiers stationed at Jenin's camp fired live and hard at the diplomatic delegation while they were in the vicinity of Jenin's Camp, to see the conditions of the camps and the sieges carried out on them.

He noted that when the delegation was near an iron gate where occupation forces were installed at the east entrance of the camp, the occupation army fired hard at the delegation and a group of journalists covering the visit.

"This incident once again shows the attitude of Israel which completely ignores international law, the injustice that the Palestinian people experience every day in their homeland," explained the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Approaching international law like this is a result of the impunity Israel has enjoyed over the years," the ministry stressed.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the occupation targeting the diplomatic delegation, stressing that the aggressive action constitutes a marked and serious violation of international law and the most basic rules of diplomatic relations set out in the 1961 Vienna Convention, which guarantees protection, mission immunity, and diplomatic delegation.

The ministry considers the Israeli occupation government to be fully and directly responsible for the attack, insisting the measure will not be tolerated without accountability.

On the other hand, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) apologized for its troops firing warning shots into the air as a group of foreign diplomats visited Jenin City in the West Bank, Palestine, Wednesday.

However, the IDF said the delegation group did not follow the agreed route when the visit was coordinated with the army.

"When coordinating entry (to Jenin), members of the delegation were given approved routes that they had to follow because the area was an active combat zone," the army said, quoted by The Times of Israel.

According to the IDF, the international delegation group "obstructed routes and entered areas that were not permitted for them." The troops stationed there fired warning shots into the air, causing no damage or injury.

"Indonesia urges the international community to increase pressure on Israel to comply with international law, stop violence, and end the illegal occupation of Palestine," the ministry concluded.
