SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Police officially named the owner of the Santoso Seal, Jan Hwa Diana, as a suspect in the alleged embezzlement of diplomas belonging to hundreds of former company employees.

Deputy Director of General Criminal Investigation (Wadirreskrimum) of the East Java Police AKBP Suryono conveyed the determination of the suspect after the case title and the increase in the status of the investigation into investigation.

"Today, we officially raise the status of the person concerned as a suspect in the name of JD (Jan Hwa Diana)," said Suryono as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 22.

The determination is based on two police reports, each numbered LP/B/532/IV/2025/SPKT/East Java Police and LP/B/542/IV/2025/SPKT/East Java Police.

One of the reports was filed by a former employee named Sasmita, who reported that the diplomas belonging to several former workers were detained by the company.

During the investigation process, the Ditreskrimum of the East Java Police conducted searches in four locations, namely the Santoso Seal office on Jalan Dupak, a warehouse on Jalan Margomulyo, Diana's private house and her husband at Prada Permai Dukuh Pakis Housing, as well as Diana's nephew's house on behalf of Veronica Adinda in Sidoarjo.

"During the search, we found and confiscated a number of diplomas, including a diploma found at the suspect's house," said Suryono.

Apart from the search, the police also received the handover of 108 diplomas which were known to belong to a former Santoso Seal employee, the majority of whom graduated from high school and vocational school.

The East Java Regional Police have examined 23 witnesses in this case and planned to examine 25 additional witnesses to develop further investigations.

"The detention of the suspect was carried out at the Surabaya Polrestabes, while the investigation process was still being handled by the East Java Regional Police," said Suryono.

For his actions, Jan Hwa Diana was charged with Article 372 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding embezzlement, with a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

The police also opened the possibility of other suspects in this case, including from the HRD ranks and company staff, in line with the results of further examinations of witnesses.

Suryono appealed to business actors to comply with applicable legal provisions, especially in the management of labor administration.

"Do not violate the provisions, both in terms of document storage and regulations from the Ministry of Manpower," he said.
