Jambi's Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) managed to thwart the shipment of hundreds of wild birds without official cross-provincial documents.
These animals were secured from an intercity bus at Alam Barajo Terminal and PO PO PO RAPI Pool, Jambi City.
The Jambi BKSDA revealed that this disclosure began with a public report through the Quick Response Call Center service on May 13, 2025. The report stated that there was activity of transporting wild birds through public transportation.
The team from the Regional Conservation Section (SKW) II of the Jambi BKSDA immediately carried out surveillance at several strategic points, including the Barajo Natural Terminal and the Sengeti District, Muaro Jambi Regency.
As a result, officers found 24 boxes containing 434 birds, consisting of 426 Buffaloes (Acridotheres javanicus) and 8 Kepodang birds (Oriolus chinensis). All of these birds are not equipped with documents of origin or official transport.
"Officers immediately secured the birds to the Jambi BKSDA Animal Rescue Center (TPS), along with their owners," said Head of the Jambi BKSDA Agung Nugraha in a press release received, Antara, Thursday, May 22.
From the inspection, the owner of the bird was identified as Gunardi AS (57), a resident of Kotabaru District, Jambi City. He admitted that he did not know that the transportation of wild animals, even though it was not protected, must still be accompanied by official documents according to the rules.
Although the two types of birds are not included in the list of protected animals, their circulation is still regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry (Permen LHK) Number 18 of 2024 concerning the Utilization of Plant and Wildlife Types.
Agung Nugraha appealed to the public not to carelessly trade or transport wildlife, and actively report illegal activities to the authorities.
