DKI Provincial Government: Don't Throw Sacrificial Animal Waste in the Drains Anymore!

JAKARTA – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has appealed to the public and qurban committees to apply the “Eco Qurban” principle in the implementation of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah. One of the main points is not to dispose of qurban animal waste into water channels such as gutters or rivers.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH), Asep Kuswanto, said that this appeal refers to the DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 10 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Organizing Qurban Animal Slaughter.

“The rules are clear, the implementation of qurban must pay attention to environmental protection and management. Do not let waste such as blood or animal entrails be disposed of carelessly into gutters or water bodies,” said Asep in Jakarta, Thursday, May 22.

According to him, waste that is disposed of carelessly can cause an unpleasant odor, pollute the environment, and even endanger public health and damage the river ecosystem.

The “Eco Qurban” concept itself is the practice of slaughtering qurban animals that is carried out directly on-site by paying attention to environmentally friendly principles.

In addition to waste management, DLH also encourages the use of environmentally friendly packaging for the distribution of sacrificial meat. Residents are encouraged to replace single-use plastic bags with alternative containers such as bamboo baskets, banana leaves, or reusable personal food containers.

In an effort to increase public awareness, DLH DKI Jakarta also collaborates with the Tunasmuda Care (T.Care) community to hold a social media campaign competition with the theme "Eco Qurban".

"Through this competition, we want to invite the public to care more about waste management and waste reduction, especially from the use of single-use plastic when distributing sacrificial meat," said Asep.

This campaign is expected to strengthen the culture of sacrifice that is not only religious, but also responsible for the environment.
