Presiden Optimistic Proyek Migas Natuna Bantu Capai Swasembada Energi

President Prabowo Subianto gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the 49th Annual Convention and Exhibition of the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA Convex) /ANTARA / HO-BPMI Presidential Secretariat.

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that the oil and gas production project in the Natuna Islands, Riau Islands, can help Indonesia realize national energy self-sufficiency.

President Prabowo on Friday (16/5) via video conference in Jakarta inaugurated the first oil and gas production from two fields for the Forel and Terubuk oil and gas projects in the waters of the Natuna Islands, Riau Islands.

"I was given a report that this effort was carried out 100 percent by the children of our own nation. This is not only a mathematical achievement, not a technical achievement, but is a very important milestone in our ongoing efforts to achieve national energy self-sufficiency," said President Prabowo during a speech at the opening ceremony of the 49th Annual Convention and Exhibition of the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA Convex) 2025 in Tangerang Regency, Banten, Wednesday, May 21.

The President then said that the inauguration of the production of the Forel and Terubuk oil and gas was the first during his reign which had been running for more than 6 months.

This is the first inauguration of the oil and gas during the reign that I lead. This field produces an additional 20,000 barrels of oil per day, and 60 million standard cubic feet of gas (MMSCFD) per day. A very significant number compared to the trend in recent years," said President Prabowo.

The President emphasized that realizing self-sufficiency and energy security is one of its priorities besides food self-sufficiency.

According to the President, a strong country is a country that is able to meet its own food and energy.

"I always say that the sovereignty of a nation is guaranteed by the nation's ability to meet food for its own nation, and both the nation's capabilities to meet its own energy needs. The survival of a nation, the survival of our nation, the survival of the nations depends on these two things," continued President Prabowo.

Therefore, the President wants cooperation and collaboration between the government, the private sector, and BUMN.

"I encourage all parties from within and outside this country. Please enter the opportunities we provide, and we also prepare a large investment fund, namely Danantara Indonesia which is also ready to invest strategically in available energy projects, together with friends abroad to encourage our needs," said President Prabowo.

The President said that Indonesia has many potential energy reserves that have not been explored, including new and renewable energy sources. The President also shared the contents of his meeting with several experts from the best universities abroad, who also mentioned large energy reserves in the seas of Indonesia.

"We are very, very optimistic that soon we will not only be self-sufficient in energy, but we will return to supply energy to the world," said the President.
