JAKARTA The waters of Tidung Island, Thousand Islands Regency, are again filled with garbage sent from mainland Jakarta. This annual phenomenon is referred to as the impact of changing the wind season which causes household waste and plastic waste from the capital city to float to the island.

"This postage phenomenon is not the first to happen. So there is a season," said Acting (Plt) Secretary of Tidung Island Village, Ari Prianto, Wednesday, May 21.

Ari said Tidung Island is often the point of accumulation of marine waste carried away from rivers and beaches on the mainland of Jakarta. He appreciated the quick efforts of the cleaning staff who intervened to clean up the waters and coastlines.

Meanwhile, the Thousand Islands Environment Agency (Sudin LH) has deployed a team to handle piles of garbage that have been monitored since May 19, 2025. The garbage was pushed by the wind to pile up on the beach.

"There are three main points affected, namely the coast area near the Improvement Building belonging to the KPKP Sub-dept., around the Tidung Island Village Office, and the Asmara Bridge tourist area near RPTRA Tidung Ceriara," said the Field Coordinator of the LH Sub-dept. Tidung Island, Azwar Hamid.

Eight cleaners or orange troops were deployed to the location. However, according to Azwar, most of the garbage was still in the middle of the sea and waited until it was swept away to the shore and then cleaned.

A total of about 250 tons of garbage has been transported. The types of waste found are very diverse, ranging from wooden sticks, plastic waste, cans, to used mattresses that pollute the coastline.

The waste that was collected was collected and dried before being brought to the mainland for further treatment.

"We will continue to monitor and clean up this shipment of garbage. We also urge the public not to throw garbage into the river or times so that it doesn't end up at sea," said Azwar.
