JAKARTA - Air talks, an initiative program from the National Children's Air Foundation, emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration to accelerate the improvement of air quality in Indonesia in the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with Commission XII DPR RI, Monday, May 19, at the Nusantara I Building of the DPR RI, Jakarta.

In an open meeting attended by the Ministry of Environment (KLH) and other stakeholders, Air Talks voiced the urgency of clean air protection as the basic right of the community.

"The quality of the air that we occupy every day is not just an environmental issue, but a public health issue and requires the attention of stakeholders. We are present at the DPR forum not only to convey data, but to bring public votes that have been affected, but not heard," said Novita Natalia, Co-Founder of Air Talks, in a written statement, Wednesday, May 21.

This meeting discussed a strategy to improve national air quality and involved a number of stakeholders, including 14 members of Commission XII DPR RI who were physically present. In this meeting, Commission XII of the DPR RI conveyed a number of important points, including appreciation for the performance of KLH and Air Talks in efforts to protect and manage air quality in Indonesia.

In addition, the Air Spokesperson also said that transparency of data and public access to air quality information, accompanied by effective delivery with early warnings for vulnerable groups, is an important foundation for building public trust.

"More than that, we also encourage the Ministry of Environment to strengthen regulations and enforcement related to ambient air quality standards and industrial emissions, as well as tighten industrial regulations and power plants. With stricter regulations and political will support, Indonesia has a great opportunity to obtain funding from development financial institutions," added Novita.

In the meeting chaired by the Deputy Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sugeng Suparwoto, the Air Spokesperson presented representatives of the Clean Air Ecosystem, an association of organizations that encourage clean air as human rights and shared responsibility. One of its members, Executive Director of the Committee for the Elimination of Pambal Gasoline (KPBB) Ahmad Safrudin, recommends the adoption of strict emission standard fuels such as Euro 4" which was welcomed by the Ministry of Environment.

"The DPR RI Commission XII supports the recommendations of the KLH or the Indonesian Environmental Control Agency and the National Children's Air Foundation (air Talk) so that the government immediately adopts standard Euro 4 fuels in order to reduce emissions from the transportation sector," said Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Sugeng Sarwoto, when closing the meeting.
