DENPASAR - The Indonesian government has strengthened cooperation in handling criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) and cyber crimes with the Cambodian government.

"Hopefully the next three or four months will be signed (cooperation) between us and the Cambodian interior minister," said Immigration and Correctional Minister Agus Andrianto while reviewing Immigration services Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday, May 20.

The immigration affairs in Cambodia are under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the country and the Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Corrections in charge of immigration affairs in Indonesia.

According to Agus, the two countries have agreed to increase cooperation in handling TIP at the ministry level of the two countries, not at the directorate general level, which is regulated through a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The MoU, continued Agus, will also regulate cooperation in handling cyber crimes such as skimming or data theft and scamming or online fraud.

Previously, thanks to the cooperation between the two countries, as many as 500 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who were trapped in an online gambling network (judol) in the country returned to their homeland at the end of April 2025.

Minister Imipas Agus Andrianto previously also held a bilateral meeting with immigration officials from Cambodia in Nusa Dua, Bali on Monday (19/5).

A number of issues were discussed, including related to the handling of transnational crimes, the problems of Indonesian and Cambodian citizens, immigration cooperation to border security.

Meanwhile, while in Bali, the Cambodian delegation also visited the Denpasar Immigration Office to conduct a comparative study on immigration services.

Indonesian immigration has prevention from the upstream departure of non-procedural migrant workers through delays in issuing passports or rejections and delays in departure for Indonesian citizens who are indicated as non-procedural migrant workers.

It was recorded that during January-April 2025, officers at airport Immigration checkpoints and international ports throughout Indonesia had postponed departures to 5,000 prospective non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers.
