The Palace through the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) has spoken about the alleged flow of funds from online gambling sites to the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Budi Arie Setiadi, who was mentioned during the trial at the South Jakarta District Court.
PCO chief Hasan Nasbi emphasized that the government will not intervene in the ongoing legal process. He emphasized the importance of upholding the principle of presumption of innocence.
"The government respects the legal process. Let this work, what is wrong will be proven wrong, the innocent should not be forced to be guilty," Hasan said in his statement at the PCO office, Jakarta, Monday, May 19.
Budi Arie's name was previously mentioned in the indictment of receiving a 50 percent share of online gambling site revenue in exchange for not blocking the site by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), when he served as Minister of Communication and Information Technology and concurrently Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs.
In response to this, Hasan appealed to the public and the media to follow the legal process openly and not to make assumptions that preceded the court's decision.
"We'll just wait for the court's decision. Don't go ahead. Monitor it properly," he said.

He also emphasized that the government would not hinder the legal process, including if later Budi Arie was summoned to attend the trial.
"The government does not intervene. Everything must go according to applicable legal procedures," Hasan said.
Currently, the case is still in the trial stage and there is no final legal conclusion regarding Budi Arie's involvement. The palace also hopes that the public will continue to prioritize the principle of presumption of innocence until a court decision has permanent legal force.
