Short Circuit Triggers House Fire In Kebon Jeruk, Losses Reaches IDR 120 Million

JAKARTA The fire hit a house on Jalan Pahlawan II, RT 01/RW 05, South Sukabumi, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Sunday, May 18. This incident caused material losses which were estimated at Rp120 million.

Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Syarifudin, said the burning house had an area of about 150 square meters. It is suspected that the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit.

The object that caught fire was a residential house with an area of approximately 150 square meters. As a result, the total loss was around Rp. 120 million," said Syarifudin in his statement, Sunday morning.

The fire was first discovered by a resident named Herianto who heard the sound of explosions from inside the house at around 00.15 WIB. When examined, the fire began to grow in the living room.

Herianto heard that there was an explosion from the house, then went to the location and immediately helped evacuate residents from the second floor because they were not aware of a fire, "explained Syarifudin.

After evacuating the victim, Herianto reported to his father-in-law who is the head of the local RT. The RT and RW then immediately contacted emergency service 112 to ask for help with extinguishing.

The West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. received a fire report at 00.35 WIB. The blackout started six minutes later, precisely at 00.41 WIB.

The fire was successfully localized at 00.45 WIB and cooling started three minutes later. The entire process of extinguishing the blackout was completed at 01.29 WIB.

"A total of 25 personnel and five fire engines were deployed to the location," added Syarifudin.

Luckily there were no casualties in this incident. Four occupants of the house were successfully evacuated safely.
