JAMBI - The Profession and Security Division (Propam) of the Jambi Police is investigating the alleged involvement of members of the police in illegal oil drilling activities (illegal drilling) that caused a fire incident on the border of Sarolangun and Batanghari Regencies.

The Head of Sub-Division of Public Relations of the Jambi Regional Police, Kompol Amin Nasution, confirmed that the Propam Bid had moved quickly to follow up on information circulating regarding the alleged involvement of police officers.

"Currently, a team from the Jambi Police Propam Bid has gone to the field regarding the alleged involvement of these members," said Kompol Amin Nasution as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 15.

Amin emphasized that the Jambi Police are fully committed to taking objective, transparent, and firm action against both civil society and internal personnel who are proven to have violated the law.

"If it is proven that members are involved, of course we will process it according to the rule of law and the police professional code of ethics. There is no tolerance for violations that tarnish the institution," he explained.

The fire that occurred on Tuesday (6/5) at around 03.15 WIB caused two workers to suffer serious burns.

It is known, after the incident, the Sarolangun Police together with related agencies had checked and collected information (pulbaket) at the location. Police lines have also been installed at the point of the burning well.

The initial suspicion was that the fire occurred due to sparks during the process of holeing the well that grabbed the oil around the area.

Meanwhile, the identity of the owner of the illegal well is known as Jupri, a resident of Suka Maju Village, East Mandiangin District. The two victims of burns have been discharged from the hospital since May 12, 2025.

This case is now being handled in parallel by the regional criminal investigation unit and the Propam internal team.

The incident occurred at the location of an illegal oil well in a concession area based on the results of checking into the jurisdiction of the Batanghari Police.
