Puan Calls For Rejecting The Idea Of Relocation Of Palestinians From Gaza

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, called for rejection of the idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza region at an inauguration event for the opening of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference forum or the Parliamentary Union forum for countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) in the Nusantara building, the DPR/MPR building.

In the event attended by President Prabowo Subianto, Puan also voiced real support for the independence and dignity of the Palestinian people.

"We gathered today in the shadow of a sad situation in Gaza that touched our human values," said Puan, Wednesday, May 14.

Puan admitted that she was concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian condition in Gaza, where civil society was victims of war, including women and children who were starving. In addition, hospitals and schools did not escape destruction.

"Civil people are victims of war. Women and children are starving. Hospitals and schools are also destroyed," said Puan.

"We must be able to help in the various ways and influences we have, to be able to end the inhumane situation in Gaza," he added.

According to Puan, one of the concrete steps that can now be taken is to reject the idea that Palestinians be reallocated from Gaza. Puan emphasized that Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people.

"We must reject the idea of relocating the Palestinian people from the Gaza region. Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. Gaza must be rebuilt not only by buildings and walls but also by self-respect, justice, and hope," said Puan.

Puan also encouraged the parliament of the countries that are members of the PUIC to increase international advocacy for the official recognition of the Palestinian state. He stressed that parliament must play a role in helping Palestinian independence.

"The parliament must encourage more countries in the world to officially recognize the Palestinian state," said Bung Karno's grandson.

Puan also invited all parties to continue to encourage a peaceful settlement of this prolonged conflict through a two-state solution or a two-state solution. According to her, this agreement between the two countries is the right solution to resolve the conflict in Palestine.

"We must also encourage peaceful conflict resolution through the Two-National Solution," said Puan.

The 19th PUIC Forum will be held at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, since May 12, 2025 and closed on May 15. In a series of events since May 12, there have been several meeting sessions that have been held at the 19th PUIC forum.

A number of issues discussed include those related to Palestine and Muslim Minorities, Civilization and Religion Dialogue, Economics and Environment, as well as issues of Human Rights, Women and Families.

The 19th PUIC Conference was attended by a parliamentary delegation of 37 OIC member countries. A total of about 500 members of the delegation attended, including from observer countries.

The PUIC Conference in the DPR also marked the chairmanship of Indonesia at the OKI state parliament forum. Puan has officially assumed her duties as 19th PUIC President in 2025.
