JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended a dinner which was held for the delegation of the Parliamentary Parliament of the State-National State Members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation or the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) 19 which was held at the National Museum, Central Jakarta.

This event is a series of PUIC conference activities attended by delegates from various OIC member countries in Indonesia.

The 19th PUIC delegation dinner on Sunday, May 11, was an invitation from the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon who is also the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) for the 2019-2024 period.

Puan sat in the same shirt with Fadli Zon, PUIC Secretary General Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, and Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha. A number of PUIC delegates to members of the DPR RI BKSAP were also present at the dinner.

Before enjoying a dinner, the PUIC delegation was first invited to tour the National Museum which displays the rich history and culture of the Indonesian nation.

In her speech, Puan said that Indonesia as the host of the 19th PUIC was very honored to receive delegates from various friendly countries. He said that as a country with the largest Islamic population in the world, Indonesia is proud to be hosting the 19th PUIC conference which is very strategic.

"It is a great honor for me to welcome all of you to the National Museum of Indonesia tonight. When we gather in this iconic institution, surrounded by the wealth of our nation's history and culture, I remember the strengths of diversity and the importance of cultural exchange," said Puan.

"Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, is proud to host the 19th Session of the PUIC Conference, which collects honorable representatives from Muslim countries," he added.

Puan said the PUIC Conference was important to be held to build cooperation and collaboration between nations. He emphasized that the DPR has a big responsibility to help shape the nation's future direction, especially in facing all the challenges that exist.

Furthermore, Puan also mentioned the importance of fighting for peace and harmony between nations. On this occasion, he also invited delegates to take advantage of the OIC state parliament conference in the DPR as a means of learning each other and strengthening friendship between countries, especially since this event in Indonesia coincided with the 25th anniversary (silver jubilee) PUIC since its establishment in 1999.

"Let us work together to advance peace, prosperity, and progress for all mankind," said Puan.

"Together, we can build a brighter future for our country and the world," added Bung Karno's grandson.

To note, the 19th PUIC will be held at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on May 12, 2025. Carrying the theme Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience, the DPR wants to emphasize that the resilience of the Islamic world cannot be separated from the foundation of clean, transparent, and strong governance.

The PUIC Conference at the Parliamentary Complex of the Republic of Indonesia is planned to be attended by 500 participants from the delegation of OIC countries, including observer countries. The delegates have started arriving since today.

Previously, Puan emphasized that the Indonesian House of Representatives was committed to directing the PUIC discussion towards concrete solutions to answer the multidimensional crisis faced by many OIC member countries. Especially in fighting for the independence of the Palestinian people.

"The DPR RI understands very well that today's parliamentary diplomacy demands real action. The issue of Palestine, institutional strengthening, and regional peace are crucial issues that must be a priority discussion," said Puan.
