JAKARTA - Ambon Port is now continuing to show significant changes. A number of facilities at the Passenger Terminal are being upgraded as part of efforts to provide more comfortable, safe, and high standard port services in eastern Indonesia.

PT Pelindo Regional 4 Ambon, Maluku, is making thorough improvements to various facilities and infrastructure at the terminal. General Manager of Pelindo Regional 4 Ambon, Zahlan, in a press statement from Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Sunday, stated that this improvement aims to increase comfort and security for port service users.

This step, according to him, is part of Pelindo's commitment to creating modern and orderly port services, especially in Eastern Indonesia (KTI).

The repair process includes improving terminal infrastructure, regulating passenger entry and exit flow, and optimizing cleaning and security services. In addition, his party has also begun to regulate activities that are not in accordance with regulations, such as the presence of hawkers who have been operating in terminal and dock areas.

Zahlan emphasized that this transformation is a real step towards a more friendly Ambon Port for passengers and has stronger competitiveness.

"We want to present a clean and orderly terminal area. One of our focuses is reorganizing the activities of hawkers so as not to disturb the comfort of service users," he explained, as quoted by ANTARA.

As part of this effort, Pelindo has conducted persuasive socialization to hawkers. This process involves various stakeholders, ranging from the Department of Transportation, port authorities, security forces, to community leaders.

The main goal of socialization is to provide an understanding of the importance of keeping the port area safe and clean, as well as avoiding unofficial activities that can disrupt order.

Zahlan also explained that currently there are only 35 street vendors (PKL) who are officially registered and have a business license within the Ambon Port area.

"We realize that hawkers depend on their income from their activities. Therefore, the approach taken is humane and gradual, but still prioritizes the principles of regularity and public services," he said.

As a follow-up, Pelindo has also prepared a number of additional supports such as placing security officers at vulnerable points, installing signs of a ban on selling in prohibited areas, and strengthening coordination between agencies to maintain port order as a whole.
