The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Phnom Penh continues to strengthen efforts to protect Indonesian citizens through a direct approach to the community, and has met two Indonesian citizens who are victims of online fraud syndicates in Cambodia.

"One of the concrete steps is the implementation of the Indonesian Community Gathering (TMI) in Poipet, Bantay Meanchey Province, a province that is directly adjacent to Thailand," said the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Djumara, in a press release in Jakarta, Saturday.

At the activity that took place at the Methaphon Poipet Building and attended by more than 150 Indonesian citizens, the Indonesian Embassy conveyed material about consular services, legal protection, dangers of drugs and traffic order.

There is also a digital anti-fraud campaign with an "anti-angle online" message aimed at reminding Indonesian citizens of the rise of false job offers.

"TMI is not just a socialization forum, but also a means of building two-way communication, strengthening solidarity among Indonesian citizens, and increasing legal awareness," he said.

The day before the activity, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also visited the Siem Reap Immigration Detention Center and met the Head of the Detention Center, Major General Po Seng Leang.

At the meeting, the two discussed the handling of problematic Indonesian citizens, accelerating repatriation, and protecting the rights of detained Indonesian citizens.

During the visit, Djumara also directly observed the condition of two Indonesian citizens from Lampung and Jakarta who were previously arrested from an online fraud syndicate in Oddar Meanchey Province.

According to Djumara, the two Indonesian citizens are in good health and have received logistical assistance from the Indonesian Embassy and the repatriation process is targeted to be completed by mid-May.
