Spokesperson for the President and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government is currently still discussing the substance of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) so that there is no plan to issue a new presidential letter (surpres) to the DPR.

"It has not yet reached the stage of issuing the surpres. We are intensively communicating about the fundamental substance in the bill," said Prasetyo Hadi as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 9.

The Asset Confiscation Bill has been rolling for almost two decades, since it was first proposed by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) in 2008.

The bill was included in the national legislation program (prolegnas) in 2023, and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo in the same year, also sent a presidential letter (surpres) of the Asset Confiscation Bill as a bill proposed by the government to be discussed together with the DPR RI. However, so far the bill has not been formally discussed either by the government or the DPR.

Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government has not currently planned to issue a regulation to replace the asset confiscation law, because the government has chosen to communicate with the Indonesian House of Representatives to accelerate the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill.

"Until today, not yet. He (President Prabowo) prefers, we choose to communicate with friends in the DPR, with party friends," said Prasetyo.

Prasetyo then emphasized that President Prabowo remains committed to supporting the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill into law. One of the commitments stated by President Prabowo was while attending the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) 2025 at Monas Cross Field, Jakarta, on May 1, 2025.

"He said this during May Day as a commitment, which is actually not strange, because one of the assets of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's administration is about eradicating corruption. (Asset Confiscation Law) This is a derivative," he continued.
