TANGERANG Tangerang Regency Government (Pemkab) plans to adopt a similar program belonging to the West Java Provincial Government that places problematic children in barracks belonging to the TNI or Polri. This step aims to shape children's discipline and character through a coaching approach, not punishment.
The Deputy Regent of Tangerang, Intan Nurul Hikmah, explained that his party was exploring cooperation with the TNI and Polri regarding the plan. According to him, this step could be an alternative to a more educational solution for children involved in deviant behavior.
"Putting problematic children into the TNI or Polri environment can be a means of learning that provides a deterrent effect, as well as establish discipline. This is important because they are still underage and cannot be subject to criminal penalties," said Intan when met, Thursday (8/5).
After going through coordination, the Tangerang Regency Government will issue a Circular (SE) addressed to all educational institutions and parents of students in the area.
"Later we will also involve parents in the process. They will be called to be given an understanding, and the school will also be directed to provide educational sanctions," he said.

Intan added that this coaching was not merely a form of punishment, but a joint effort to guide children who got lost in negative interaction to return to the right path.
Even so, Intan reminded that the role of parents remains the main thing in supervising children, especially outside school hours. He is worried about the increasing potential for criminality and brawls between students in the Tangerang Regency area.
"Parents still have to monitor their children, especially when they are outside the house. The outside environment is full of challenges, and children need assistance," he concluded.
