JAKARTA - Moscow is deeply concerned about the increasing military tensions between India and Pakistan following the Palaligam terror attack, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"We are deeply concerned by the increasing military tensions between India and Pakistan following a terror attack near the City of Palaligam," the diplomat said, launching TASS May 7.

According to Zakharova, "Russia firmly condemns acts of terrorism for opposing all its manifestations and emphasizing the need to join globally to fight these crimes effectively."

"We call on the relevant parties to exercise restraint to prevent the situation in the region from increasing," Zakharova said.

"We hope that the latest dispute between New Delhi and Islamabad will be resolved through bilaterally peaceful political and diplomatic means in accordance with the provisions of the 1972 Simla Agreement and the 1999 Lahore Declaration," he concluded.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after gunmen killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen in the popular tourist town of Palaligam in the Indian unity area of Jammu and korony on April 22.

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor and attacked nine targets in Pakistan, on Wednesday.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif warned his country has the right to respond firmly to Indian aggression.
