JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung carried out joint rice harvesting activities as well as handed over various agricultural facilities assistance to the Karawang Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) in Kutawargi Village, Rawamerta District, Karawang Regency, West Java.
This activity is a contract farming collaboration between the DKI Provincial Government and other local governments which has become a tradition since the leadership of former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.
This cooperation is a strategic step in ensuring stable and affordable food availability for the community. This also opens up new opportunities for farmers in Karawang to further increase their production and welfare," said Pramono in Karawang, West Java, Tuesday, May 6.
Pramono admitted that Jakarta needs rice supplies from other areas because it does not have sufficient land to grow rice. In fact, the demand for rice in DKI Jakarta in 2025 will reach 2,580 tons per day and on an annual basis it will be 941,791 tons.
Thus, contract farming with Karawang which has 88 thousand hectares of rice fields is a strategic step in meeting food needs in Jakarta.
"In Jakarta, there are only hectares to meet more than 11 million people. So it is impossible without good cooperation with cities or rice-producing districts," said Pramono.

Continuing, the Regent of KarawangbAep Syaepuloh hopes that there will be an expansion of cooperation in other fields in order to strengthen relations between Jakarta and Karawang.
"Alhamdulillah, our farmers were also given agricultural equipment assistance, such as tractors. So, we thank you, Mr. Governor. Hopefully, later we will also expand the warehouse receipt," said Aep.
For information, this year, the DKI Provincial Government through the BUMD PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya is targeting contract farming cooperation on 7,500 hectares of land spread across West Java, Central Java, and East Java. Especially for Karawang Regency, the target for planting is 589 hectares of land with a total harvest until the end of the year of 1,546 tons.
