JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto asked his staff to immediately coordinate to find solutions to reduce the cost of organizing the pilgrimage so that it is more affordable for the community.

"We are fighting hard to reduce the cost of Hajj as cheaply as possible. I ask the Minister of Religion, the Head of the Hajj Agency, and the Presidential Special Advisor for Hajj to sit down together and find concrete solutions," Prabowo said as quoted by Antara.
The President emphasized that although the government had succeeded in reducing the cost of Hajj by Rp. 4 million, he was not satisfied. He targets that the cost of Hajj from Indonesia can be cheaper than neighboring countries.
"The decrease of IDR 4 million is not enough. I want us to be the cheapest. If it can be cheaper than Malaysia," he said.
Prabowo added, Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest number of pilgrims and Umrah in the world. In one year, more than 2.2 million Indonesians are recorded as carrying out the pilgrimage and Umrah, with a peak of 12,000 people per day.
Therefore, Prabowo plans to take a diplomatic route with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss possible efficiency and cooperation that could further reduce the cost of Hajj.
"I have asked for time to meet with the leaders of Saudi countries. We will discuss the interests of Indonesian pilgrims directly," he said.
