JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that his determination was to continue to be economical in using the budget, so that the savings results could be used to accelerate the repair of damaged and unfit schools in various parts of Indonesia.
In commemoration of the 2025 National Education Day (Hardiknas) in Bogor City, Friday, the President said the government is targeting to improve 11,000 schools this year.
"If we fix 11,000 (schools per year), maybe 30 years until all of these schools can be repaired, and we must not give up. We cannot improve these schools for 30 years. That's why I am determined to make continuous savings. We must improve as many schools throughout Indonesia as quickly as possible," said President Prabowo during the 2025 National Education Day at SD Negeri Cimahpar 5, Bogor City, West Java, Friday, May 2.
The President said there were approximately 330,000 schools in Indonesia, 200,000 of which were public schools.
"This is what I am thinking about with my ministers. I constantly think about how we are looking for money, how we manage our wealth, because frankly, I have said that the wealth of the Indonesian nation is still too much leaked and has not reached the people," said the President.
The improvement of schools is one of four Best Results Programs Fast (PHTC) launched by the President during the Hardiknas commemoration event in Bogor today. The other three programs, namely digitizing education, assistance for honorary teachers, and educational support for teachers who do not yet have a D4 or S1 diploma.
The President believes that these programs can be implemented supported by a savings budget.
"Maybe now we can only get 11,000 schools, but once we can get savings, once we get more funds, we will continue to add to those improvements," said the President.
Rehabilitation of schools is one of the President's highlights, because the President directly sees that there are many schools that are not feasible and need to be renovated. The President also reminded regional heads to also actively check the condition of schools in their respective regions.

"We are still looking at it, and we know that so many schools are damaged. Even though if we open the budget there is one. How can there be only one toilet school, one toilet. How can I remind you? This is the responsibility of the local government, the responsibility of the mayor, regent, governor together," said the President.
