Earthquake M 2.4 Cianjur, BPBD Reveals No Meaningful Damage

JABAR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) confirmed that there was no damage caused by the 2.4 magnitude (M) earthquake that rocked Cianjur, Friday, April 25 evening.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Regency Asep Kusmanawijaya said officers were still conducting thorough data collection in a number of sub-districts such as Cianjur, Cugenang, Cilaku and Warungkondang which felt quite strong vibrations.

"The results of monitoring and data collection of officers in the field showed no damage to buildings due to the 6.83 LS and 107.11 BT coordinates located on land at a distance of Southwest of Cianjur Regency at a depth of 19 kilometers," he said in Cianjur, Friday, April 25, confiscated by Antara.

However, due to the earthquake that was quite strong, residents in a number of sub-districts had panicked and most of them remained outside their homes to avoid aftershocks, after a few dozen minutes, residents dared to enter the house.

His party appealed to residents to remain vigilant and not panic when an earthquake occurred, in order to avoid unwanted things, immediately leave the house looking for open land or fields far from the building.

Head of BMKG West Java, Teguh Rahayu, said that based on the epicenter location and hypocenter depth, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to active fault activity felt by residents in a number of sub-districts in Cianjur.

The results of monitoring by BMKG officers in the field have not shown any aftershock activity, so residents are asked not to panic and remain vigilant, where the earthquake was felt in Cianjur, Cugenang, Warungkondang and Cilaku sub-districts with an MMI III Intensity Scale.

"We urge the public not to panic and remain vigilant not to be consumed by issues that cannot be justified, residents can see information related to earthquakes and other natural disasters on the BMKG official website," he said.

While most residents in Nagrak Village, Cianjur District, rushed out of their homes because they felt a fairly strong earthquake on Friday evening, they even lasted quite a long time outside their homes for fear of aftershocks.

"It was quite strong until the cupboard door sounded loud and the water inside the gallon sounded, so we immediately ran out of the house because it was still traumatized by the earthquake a few years ago," said Nagrak Village resident Gina Rohmawati.
