Mount Marapi West Sumatra Eruption 2 Times Today, Ash Colon To North

JAKARTA - Mount Marapi erupted twice today. Gunung in Agam Regency and Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra) erupted in the near future.

"The first eruption occurred at 15.13 WIB with a column height of ash observed about 800 meters above the peak. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning north," said Mount Marapi Fire Post (PGA) officer Teguh in Padang, Friday

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30.9 millimeters and a duration of about 40 seconds. Then PGA again reported the eruption of Mount Marapi at 16.41 WIB. At this second eruption, the ash column was observed about 350 meters above the peak.

The ash column is observed to be gray with intensity leaning towards the north. The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 1.2 millimeters and lasted about 2 minutes 35 seconds.

PVMBG also issued a number of recommendations, including the community, climbers or visitors, being asked not to enter or carry out activities within a three-kilometer radius of the eruption center (Kawah Verbeek) of Mount Marapi.

The next recommendation is that people living around the valley, rivers or riverbanks whose water originates at the top of Mount Marapi are advised to always be aware of the potential threat of rain lava floods that can occur, especially during the rainy season.

Then if there is ash rain, people are advised to use a nose and mouth covering mask to avoid respiratory tract problems.
