2 Fishermen Catch Fish Using Explosives In Sikka NTT Arrested

NTT - Police arrested two fishermen who caught fish using explosives or fish bombs in the waters of Pulau Besar, Koja Gete Village, East Alok District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The arrests were made by the Directorate of Polairud Polda NTT in a joint operation.

"This operation originated from reports from the public who were worried about the rampant fishing activities with explosives," said the Director of Polairud Polda NTT, Kombes Pol. Irwan Defi Nasution in his statement, Wednesday, April 23, was confiscated by Antara.

After receiving the report, the personnel used KP. SUKUR XXII - 3007 together with personnel from the Sikka Police Polairud Unit immediately conducted an investigation last Sunday (20/4).

The two perpetrators were arrested on Tuesday, April 22 in the waters of Pulau Besar, Koja Gete Village, East Alok District, Sikka Regency.

"We found an unnamed motorboat and a suspicious canoe," he said.

At the location, a fisherman was found diving using a compressor. After an inspection, it was proven that they were carrying out a fish bombing.

The two perpetrators, each with the initials T (64) and A (38), acknowledged their respective roles. T was the perpetrator of the explosion, while A was tasked with diving and collecting dead fish.

From the scene of the incident, the police secured a number of pieces of evidence, including 134 fish from the bombing, one unit of black white motorboat, one green canoe, one compressor unit, white bucket, diving equipment, matches, and pieces of mosquito medicine.

This practice is very damaging to marine ecosystems and endangers environmental safety. We will take firm action against fish bomb actors, because this is not just a violation of the law, but a crime against nature," said Dirpolairud.

The perpetrators are now detained in Marnit Sikka and charged under Article 84 in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph (1) of Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries, which has been amended by Law Number 45 of 2009.
