JAKARTA - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas said the number of prisoners who would receive amnesty or pardons was still changing. Verification is still being carried out and even the figure has now decreased to 19,000 from 100,000 people.

"The latest data is from 100,000 then down to 44,000. Because we also verified and then went down again to 19,000," Supratman told reporters after halal bihalal at the house of MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, Widya Chandra complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 2.

"This change in the number of recipients is also targeting narcotics convicts," continued Supratman. Because, only a few are eligible for amnesty.

"Data from the Director of Crimes for drug users may be only a very small number that meets the requirements according to the Supreme Court's decision or circular. Maybe only about 700 people are truly pure as users," he said.

"But this is only (approximate, red), not yet the final number, it can be reduced," continued the Gerindra Party politician.

Supratman explained that this verification was carried out together with the Ministry of Imipas who was responsible for managing prisoners in prisons (prisons).

"For us at the Ministry of Law, we will receive data, everything will be from the Ministry of Imipas because they manage the inmates," he concluded.
