China Launches Military Exercises Around Taiwan, Mocks President Lai Ching-Te As 'Parasit'

JAKARTA - The Chinese military has started joint exercises of the army, navy, and rocket forces around Taiwan, Tuesday, April 1.

This exercise is a strong warning and a strong deterrent to Taiwan's independence.

China even called Taiwan's President Lai Ching-Te a 'parasit.'

China, which has never abandoned the use of force to bring democratically-ruled Taiwan under its control, has stepped up military and political pressure on the island in recent years.

"The focus is on exercises such as combat readiness patrols at sea and in the air, capturing comprehensive control, attacking maritime and ground targets, and implementing lockdown controls in key areas and routes," the Eastern Theater Command said in a statement on WeChat's official channel. A poster that accompanies the exercise titled "Closing In", and shows Chinese warships and fighter jets circling the island, was released shortly after the announcement at the Weibo Eastern Theater Command.

A video titled "Shell", and depicts Lai Ching-Te as a cartoon insect held by a pair of palaces over a burning Taiwan, is on the Eastern Theater Command's WeChat page.

"The parasit poisoned the island of Taiwan. Parasites shot the island. Parasite is nearing the final devastation," the animation said.
