JAKARTA - Carlos Lehder, a former drug kingpin who is also one of the founders of the Medellin Cartel, was arrested on Friday by Colombian authorities upon arrival from Germany.

Lehder was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 135 years in 1988 after a Florida court found him guilty of a cocaine trade.

His sentence was later reduced by 55 years after he testified against former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. Lehder was released in 2020 due to health problems.

"Lehder Rivas, who arrived in the country from Frankfurt, showed an arrest warrant applicable to our information system," the Colombian migration authority in X said.

The former drug kingpin has been handed over to the police.

Videos from the migration authorities showed Lehder wearing a suit and tie guarded by several agents.
