JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM) visited the DKI Jakarta City Hall to meet the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung.

To Pramono, Muhammadiyah wanted to ask the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to provide land to build universities. Deputy Chairperson of PWM Jakarta Agus Suradika said that currently Muhammadiyah does not yet have a campus in West Jakarta.

"In the field of higher education, Muhammadiyah plans to have higher education every city. Now what doesn't exist is West Jakarta. So, in West Jakarta, Muhammadiyah universities will be built," said Agus at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, March 27.

Agus said that the request for land provision for the construction of the Muhammadiyah campus was motivated by the support of Islamic community organizations (ormas) to Pramono Anung-Rano Karno in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election.

"When the gubernatorial election, we certainly endorse all governors, with Mas Pram we also discuss the development aspect. The focus is that between Umara and Ulama there must be a good synergy," explained Agus.

Agus explained that currently there are five Muhammadiyah universities in Jakarta. Among them are Muhammadiyah University Jakarta which has two campuses, namely the main campuses in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, and Cireundeu, South Tangerang (Tangsel).

Then, Muhammadiyah also has Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. Hamka (Uhamka) in Pasar Rebo (East Jakarta), Limau (South Jakarta), Mampang (South Jakarta), and Klender (East Jakarta); Institute of Business Technology Ahmad Dahlan who owns a campus in Cireundeu, South Tangerang.

Furthermore, the Muhammadiyah University of Technology Jakarta which has three campuses, namely Jalan Minangkabau (South Jakarta), Kramat Raya (Central Jakarta), and Rorotan (North Jakarta); and, Saintek Muhammadiyah University in Ciracas (East Jakarta).

"Well, among the five city areas, there are no West Jakarta yet. We asked the Governor for help, maybe there are DKI assets that we will develop into universities there," explained Agus.

So far, Pramono has allowed the DKI Provincial Government to provide land to build the Muhammadiyah campus. There are two options for land use to be decided, namely between grants or leases.

"There are several mechanisms, yes, in this local government, there are leases, there are also grants. If grants may be a long process. So maybe we will lease them on that land, we build Muhammadiyah universities, and also mosques that serve the community," he added.
