Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, Over 1,500 Prisoners Ahead Of Eid Al-Fitr

JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei approved pardons or reduced sentences for more than 1,500 inmates on Wednesday, following requests from the head of justice ahead of the good Eid al-Fitr and the anniversary of the Islamic Republic.

The Chief Justice of Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei has submitted a request for pardon or a reduced sentence for 1,526 people convicted in public courts and revolutionary courts, as well as in the Armed Forces Judiciary Organization and the State Discresioner Sentence Organization, quoted from Tasnim March 26.

Ayatollah Khamenei approved the request, which allows the implementation of clemency measures.

Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution gives the Leaders the right to pardon or reduce the sentence of prisoners on the recommendation of the head of justice.

Last month, Ayatollah Khamenei granted clemency to more than 3,000 court convicts on the occasion of Eid al-Mab'ath, the day of commemoration of the election of Prophet Muhammad SAW as his last and birthday Prophet, Imam Hussein, as reported by Mehr.
