JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was seen aboard a submarine during a nuclear deterrent exhibition when international military planners met in London to discuss peacekeeping forces in support of Ukraine.

Starmer quietly visited the nuclear submarine earlier this week, but footage of his visit was just released by his office on Downing Street on Thursday, March 19.

The video shows Starmer meeting with the submarine crew returning from marine patrols for a month - the first time a British prime minister has done so in more than a decade.

As reported by Reuters, Starmer will make a separate visit to a nuclear submarine facility in northwestern England to officially mark the start of the construction of a new Dreadnought-class submarine, which will replace Vanguard-class submarines.

Starmer's visit comes at a time when European countries increase their defense budget and seek to reduce their dependence on the United States after US President Donald Trump returns to the White House.

Military leaders from dozens of countries will meet in the UK on Thursday to discuss planning a possible peacekeeping force in Ukraine.

Britain earlier this week said the "large numbers" of countries were willing to prepare peacekeepers in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement with Russia.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly rejected the idea of soldiers from countries that are members of the NATO military alliance being stationed in Ukraine.
